However, the auction’s undisputed star was neither a forest flyer nor a one-trick track car, but a road-going veteran of road rallies, classic races and hillclimbs from Italy to the Isle of Man – a 1950 E-Series Healey Silverstone. In the same ownership for the last 26 years, the Blue, ‘matching numbers’ Healey has never required a comprehensive restoration and, though no concours contender, is a pleasingly patinated all-rounder which is potentially capable of gaining its new owner entry to such blue riband events as the Goodwood Revival and Mille Miglia Storica. The venerable Silverstone comfortably exceeded its top estimate to sell for £121,000.Good classic Jaguars are excellent currency these days and all the road-going examples in this sale fared well.
