This year, however, the Grand Marshal will be Guy Buffet, a renowned French-American artist now living in California. “The Concours will be a colorful tribute to the art and beauty of our cars plus the arts and natural beauty of the Palos Verdes Peninsula,” said Chairman Peter Kunoth. It will be preceded by a Road Rallye and the Grand Marshal’s Bistro d’Elegance reception & dinner on Saturday, September 17. Buffet was born in Paris where his parents owned a restaurant in the area where Picasso, Matisse and Chagall lived. As a French sailor he got to know and love Polynesia and, after his discharge, settled in Hawaii. Members of Les Amis - French for "The Friends" - can participate/volunteer in all three events and, throughout the year will be invited to exclusive private parties, including a select cocktail party at a stately Palos Verdes home with Grand Marshal Guy Buffet. Les Amis will also receive VIP seating at the Concours awards ceremony. Les Amis is the original name of the volunteer group that started in the early years of the Palos Verdes Concours. The past years have seen the Palos Verdes Concours d'Elegance grow in stature among both the collectors and classic car aficionados. The first Palos Verdes Concours held on the Ladera Linda soccer fields was followed by six years on the football field of Peninsula High School. This was followed by four years at the former Ocean Trails Golf Club and three years at Rolling Hills Country Club before coming back to what became Trump National Golf Club on the cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. 2011 marks the 5th year at Trump National in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA.
