This has been an annual opportunity for the owners of genuine old rally cars to come and drive them non-competitively over the Eifel stages but with all the marshalling and safety equipment in place. He coined the name ‘Slowly Sideways’ for this club of enthusiasts who come from many European countries including Britain. With each year, the popularity of the event has grown. So much so that now it has finally eclipsed the modern event and taken over the Eifel Rally entirely. With the help of sponsorship from Opel and many other companies, it has now evolved into a new event called the Eifel Rallye Festival. The usual roads will be closed as special stage while the town of Daun will be given over entirely to the old cars for three days from July 14th to 16th.
