On July 29, at the Concours d’Elegance of America Track Day at Michigan International Speedway, Mr. Gregg Brumm of Bloomfield, MI, will reunite with the car that he loved and lost 45 years ago. Mr. Brumm was the former owner and driver of a 2011 entrant to the Concours d’Elegance of America: a 1958 Lotus Eleven Series II Le Mans car. He owned the car from 1964 to 1966 and raced it at Northern California venues such as Laguna Seca and Cotati, while he attended Stanford University. In 1965, when Mr. Brumm was still winning regional races with it, the Eleven had been eclipsed in competition by others such as the Lotus 23 and others. After he graduated, Mr. Brumm put the Lotus on a trailer and headed across country to Chesterfield, MO, where he had grown up. Owners of classic cars from around the country are invited to bring their machines to MIS on Friday, July 29, 2011 to experience thrill of driving on a high speed raceway. “We are very happy to introduce a track event to the Concours,” said James McCarter, Executive Director of the Concours d’Elegance of America. “Driving vintage cars and high performance vehicles on a professional track is an important part of owning them—it’s no fun just keeping them in the garage. We are planning for this to become an annual part of the Concours d’Elegance of America at St. John’s.
