The German driver scored his first win in the GP Masters race beating team-mate Joaquin Folch, both in Brabham BT49s. His second win came in the following race when he shared his Mercedes C11 to win the inaugural Masters Sports-Prototype event, sharing the car with Folch. Glaesel’s GP Masters win was far from easy. Starting from pole, he eased away from Folch until his ex-Riccardo Patrese Brabham BT49 lost second gear four laps from home. “To begin with, I could hold it in gear but then it became impossible. It was really hard in the chicane at the end of the lap because you need second. First gear was not right and in third it would stutter,” explained the German. The opening race of the new-for-2011 category will be at the Barcelona Grand Prix circuit on April 8-10th as part of the inaugural Catalunya Classic Festival and will feature two races for the cars of the 1990s. Amongst the impressive list of entries already confirmed are a trio of Spices from father-and-son Larry and Nathan Kinch accompanied by Warren Dunbar, while Steve Tandy will make his Group C debut in the Nissan RC90 shared with historic racing stalwart Martin Stretton. A similar Nissan will be driven by Masters regular Katsu Kubota, the car having returned from Japan after its winter overhaul - the Japanese driver will combine his MS-P outing alongside the Grand Prix Masters F1 races in his Williams FW07. The Circuit de Catalunya, current home of the Spanish Grand Prix, will play host to Grand Prix Masters, World Sportscar Masters, Interserie Revival, a 2-hour evening race for Gentleman Drivers Pre-1966 GT cars and Masters Pre-66 Touring cars. After more than 3 decades, during which it has been impossible to hold high-level automobile competitions on the Montjuïc park city track of Barcelona, the Spirit of Montjuïc will live again at the Circuit de Catalonia, with the most important competitions that took place on the “Magic Mountain” in the 1950s, 60s and 70s. During this weekend race car fans will have a unique chance to re-live the races as they did in the past on the original race track at the park. You will be able to stroll around the paddock, seeing the vehicles, the mechanics and the drivers up close, and delighting in the sounds, smells and an atmosphere that is all but impossible to find in today's competitions.
