This will be a rare gathering of the legendary GT racers that made its international debut at the 1962 12 Hours of Sebring and proceeded to rule international GT racing for three years. Even a half century after its creation the GTO still commands tremendous respect on the road and track. Built from 1962 through 1964, only 36 three-liter cars and two four-liter cars were created by the factory. Ferrari 250 GTOs were constructed to meet new racing rules for the FIA’s World Championship Grand Touring category. In Italian GTO means “Grand Turismo Omologato” and translates to “Grand Touring Homologated”. Homologation is a process of establishing a set of specific capacities and dimensions for a racing car. When those statistics are approved by motorsp... less

Road racing is again the star at next year’s Amelia with the announcement today that sports car pilot Vic Elford will be the honoree for the 17th Annual Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance scheduled for March 9-11, 2012, at The Golf Club of Amelia Island at Summer Beach. Dubbed “Quick” Vic by his contemporaries, Elford was one of racing’s most successful drivers in the 60s and 70s. “Vic is definitely one of the most versatile drivers ever,” says Bill Warner, Concours founder and chairman. “You hear that word used to describe a lot of drivers, but it really suits him perfectly. He was a rally champion and a road racing champion, which is still today a very rare combination. A lot of drivers in his era, which really was the ‘golden era’ of motorsports, tried to win in a variety of series, but very few were as successful as Vic was.” 60s & 70s – Triumph After Triumph Victor Henry Elford was born in 1935 in London, England, and star... less

Two very deserving Duesenbergs took both Best In Show awards at the 16th annual Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance and, according to the show Chairman Bill Warner, it was one of the hardest choices to make that he can remember. The Concours d’Elegance award went to the 1933 Duesenberg SJN Arlington Torpedo Sedan from The Nethercutt Collection in Sylmar, Calif. Dubbed the “Twenty Grand” for its unheard of price tag in the 30s – $20,000 – the car was originally built for the Century of Progress Exposition also known as the 1933-34 Chicago World’s Fair. Gordon Buehring, Duesenberg’s legendary stylist, was consulted on the car’s restoration when the Nethercutts purchased it back in 1978 and the car is exactly as it was when it left the factory for its World’s Fair appearance. It was the Nethercutt’s third time winning best in show at Amelia. The famed “Mormon Meteor,” the Concours de Sport winner, is a vehicle that requires n... less
