32,227 visitors at the fifth Bremen Classic
Motorshow
”An all-round success.“ Petra Maria von Wahlberg from
the Autostadt Wolfsburg Theme Park pinpointed the mood at
the Bremen Classic Motorshow 2007. “The response was
first class!“ From Friday 2nd to Sunday 4th February 571
exhibitors displayed and sold classic cars, historic
motorcycles, accessories and spare parts in the Bremen
Exhibition Centre - and the 32,227 visitors who went to
the show were delighted. According to the results of a
visitor survey, 97 per cent of them will be recommending
the Bremen Classic Motorshow to others.
“We can be more than satisfied with the result”, said
Hans Peter Schneider, the Managing Director of Messe
Bremen. “Our special shows - this time “Bugatti” and
“Belgian Motorcycles” - draw new visitors to Bremen
every year and also ensure that people want to come back
again. We are particularly pleased with the increasing
internationality of the visitors.” In the coming year,
the event organisers would again be thinking up some
exciting ideas for the show, said Schneider.

The First FIA Historic Rally in the
Emirates of Abu Dhabi and in the Middle East under the
patronage of Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan.
The First Historic Sporting Car Rally in
the UAE the Abu Dhabi Classic from
January 8th to 14th, 2007 has been a big success. 42 teams
from 6 different countries Italy, Germany, Austria,
Finland, Sweden, Switzerland came to compete in Abu Dhabi
in this first European Championship outside Europe. They
have enjoyed not only the rally but also the hospitality
of Abu Dhabi thoroughly
Many of the drivers who participated in Abu Dhabi are in
the top range of the European Championship, like Michael
Stoschek the European Champion, Riolo the Italian and
Ernst Harrach the Austrian Champion.
Harrach with Porsche 911 became Champion of the first Abu
Dhabi Classic, a challenging rally with a little
feeling of Paris Dakar due to the sand passages on the
special stages in Sweihan. 8 Minutes behind Harrach
another Porsche 911 with the team Polesznig arrived,
followed by the Italian Champion Riolo again on Porsche
911.

Eighty colorful vintage race cars and
“specials” lined up in Veracruz, Mexico on November 10
for the 19th annual La Carrera Panamericana
or Pan Am. This was the largest field since 1999. Half of
these entries were from the USA. The others were from
Mexico and Europe. The event was a sell out in the States.
One week later the survivors of this grueling endurance
event straggled across the finish line in Monterrey,
Mexico, 1800 miles north. The ultimate victor was a
Mexican crew, Gabriél Pérez (driver) and Angélica
Fuentes (navigator) in their ‘54 Ford.
The Pérez-Fuentes victory was somewhat unexpected because
their Ford runs in the Turismo Production class, which is
limited to 305 cubic inches. The Turismo Mayor cars boast
up to 366 cubic inches and have dominated the event. But
not this year.
Pérez and Fuentes are certainly among the best crews in
Mexico; however, most of their rivals in the faster Mayor
class suffered mechanical problems or minor crashes. This
race proved once against that the most powerful cars do
not always win endurance races.

“Duel
in the Desert,” The Chihuahua Express! A new open-road
race in Mexico, April 20-22, 2007
Where else in the world can you open up your performance
car on a public highway for 500 miles under the protection
of the highway patrol? Viva Mexico!
On April 20-22, 2007 modern and vintage high performance
cars will line up in Chihuahua to rip across the county
side on closed highways at speeds upwards of 200 MPH. It’s
the first annual “Chihuahua Express”
-- three days of open-road racing very close to the USA.
Chihuahua City is only 220 miles south of El Paso and 140
miles west of Presidio, Texas. The landscape is arid, with
rolling hills and canyons. There are good roads and few
towns to slow the cars down.

A little over a week ago, we began describing the Race
Route for Great American 2007. As we
approach the start date for our 25th anniversary milestone,
we will share some special celebration plans in store for
those taking part, along with interesting facts about some
of the places we will visit, as well as reflections of
past Great Races. We welcome your Great Race stories too!
For the past 24 years, Great Racers’ have participated
in almost 1,000 community events across America. And for
many of those years, Great Race has been the focal point
for local 4th of July Celebrations. Great American Race
2007 will be no different. Competitors fortunate enough to
be participating later this summer, will join us in
celebrating July 4th in Fort Smith, Arkansas, hometown of
Great Race Grand Champion driver, Dave Reeder. But first
we (and you) have got to get there.
