Classic cars may be more reliable than any modern car in this years
Targa Tasmania.
Robert Priddle is very happy with his
Classic car, a 1975 Jaguar XJS V12, with its second hand engine which he got for a bargain and hardly drove before the event.
“The engine we’ve currently got we bought second hand for $1,000 ,” said Robert. “We put it in and crossed our fingers and so far so good.”
Robert said it’s been four years since he last drove the Jaguar in a Targa.
“I’ve had to re-acquaint myself with this
classic car.”
At today’s TEMCO Prologue at George Town, Robert was happy with the day.
“The car went very well with the motor we haven’t tested. Generally I am very happy.”
The only trouble Robert has had with his
classic Jaguar on an event is he had to change the brake pads during the New Zealand Targa. By then the original engine was “very tired” after 250,000 kms. Thus the “new” engine was acquired from a wreck.
Robert and his navigator, son Jon, are looking forward to this years Targa and hope the second hand engine will last the distance.
“Targa is not all about speed, it’s also about reliability,” laughed Robert.
The XJS is one of only 280 manual cars produced by the factory and is a very rare model. Robert is fortunate to have found two of them, the rally car having come from Launceston in 2001.
