Masters Historic Racing Limited are pleased to announce today that
TAG Heuer’s UK is today announcing a new step forward in their support of motor sport, by moving into the
historic motor sport market, with a new marketing arrangement with Masters, which includes the presentation of one of Heuer’s most iconic watches, the “blue face Monaco”, to the leading owner/driver in the World Sportscar Masters races throughout the season 2010, at the Annual Masters Awards.
The famous
Monaco watch is absolutely the right watch for World Sportscar Masters, as these types of car represent the key element in the legend of the Heuer Monaco. In 1969,
TAG Heuer created the first square-cased, water-resistant watch in the history of watch-making. Powered by the famous Chronomatic Calibre 11, the Monaco is also the world’s first automatic chronograph. A year later, Steve McQueen chose to wear it in the 1970 car-racing classic film, Le Mans - and on McQueen’s wrist, it became an icon. It is cars like those seen in that film which are raced today in World Sportscar Masters.
The Monaco continues to represent the spirit of
TAG Heuer. The blue chronograph version with its 60-second counter at 3 o’clock and 30-minute counter at 9 o’clock, the red-orange hands, and blue alligator strap, has an enduring and seductive quality. The Monaco offers an authentic, original style that for decades has conferred on the wearer, an undeniable and timeless motor racing spirit – a spirit that will be passed on to the lucky winner of the 2010 WSM Heuer Prize watch.
For Masters, Christopher Tate, Series Director, said: “This is an important step for
Masters, an association with a world leading brand across a number of areas, and in practical support which includes this great and so highly suitable, Monaco watch for our lucky prize winner. Working with Heuer’s agent, Ogdens of Harrogate - who have been such active sponsors of Masters for three years now - we are sure that this new association will work well for us all - Masters, Ogdens and TAG Heuer.”
Masters next event is the
Brands Hatch Masters Historic Festival, this Bank Holiday weekend, from Saturday 29th to Monday 31st, and includes two races for the ‘Heuer Monaco/McQueen’ era cars, the World Sportscar Masters 1966-74.
