Reims Weekend of Automobile Excellence Photos
To mark the third year of the now traditional
Weekend of Automobile Excellence the organisers are proud to present the two greatest motorcycle Champions of all time! The unforgettable riders,
Giacomo Agostini of Italy and
Phil Read of Great Britain.
Despite the arrival of the famous “Doctor”, aka Valentino Rossi, his compatriot Giacomo Agostini remains the rider with the most Grand Prix wins: 122! And the rider from Bergamo remains first and foremost the rider with the most world championship titles to his name – 15 in total...
The two Champions who reigned astride their magnificent MV Agustas from the mid 1960s to the late 1970s will perform exclusive demonstrations as well as taking part in the motorcycle offcial demonstration. The French rider Jean-François Balde, runner-up in the World championships in the 350cc class with Kawasaki, will also be present.
In the car category, after two years as star of the show, driven most memorably by the five times Argentinean World Champion, Juan Manuel Fangio, the Mercedes 196 is this year moving over to make room for....Jaguar!
The prestigious Coventry Museum from England will present 3 unique Jaguars: a Jaguar C-type, a Jaguar D-type and finally a much more recent model, a Jaguar XJR-9LM.
Three racing cars which have all gained honours on the tracks.
The Jaguar D-type took part in the renowned Mille Miglia in Brescia. The Jaguar D-type raced and won…in Reims and was driven in competition by the 1958 World Champion, Mike Hawthorn from England. As for the Jaguar XJR- 9LM, it triumphed at the equally famous 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1989.
The prestigious Jaguar MKII will also have place of honour over the course of the weekend to mark its 50th anniversary. French Jaguar clubs will take the opportunity of the WAE to celebrate the occasion, as is only fitting for this superb Jaguar, still very much admired!
Finally, for
classic car lovers, Bonhams, the famous auction house, will be organising an auction of vintage cars and exceptional Automobilia for this 3rd “Weekend of Automobile Excellence” of Reims, on Saturday 26th September 2009.
An exhibition of vehicles, open to everyone, will be held from Friday 25th to Sunday 27th September in the paddock. 60 magnificent cars will be available to collectors.
4 British tour operators have already sold the Weekend as a complete package, proving that the triumphant return to Reims of the British beauties will attract fans from across the Channel.
Finally, free entry for pre-war cars means that spectators will be treated to some superb displays featuring these spectacular racing cars.
All in all, this third
Weekend of Automobile Excellence is set to provide a wealth of entertaining events.
